Modular training offerings allow students to choose the method of study that best suits their lifestyles and availability. Students can take courses à la carte or all at once, and can certify in Mat, or Reformer, or achieve Full Certification. Merrithew also offers over 150 STOTT PILATES workshops to choose from for continuing education.

STOTT PILATES® is recognized by a host of high-level industry bodies all over the world, including The Register of Exercise Professionals, the American Council on Exercise and canfitpro. Pilates Franklin partners with Inspire Health in Atlanta, GA, a seasoned STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Center.

Intensive Mat Plus

  • IMP provides you with the solid foundation and skills you need to develop effective and motivating group and personal training programs. At the end of the course you are qualified to design and teach essential and intermediate level matwork classes, integrating small equipment to add variety and to meet the specific needs of your clients. In addition to the general course objectives you learn:

    Workout composition for personal and group training.

    Essential, intermediate and power workouts.

    Use of the Flex-Band, Fitness Circle and Arc Barrel to enhance, support and intensify strength and flexibility exercises. 

  • Working knowledge of functional anatomy, some pilates training and three-plus years teaching movement or fitness.

  • 40 hours instruction and supervised teaching, plus minimum 10 hours observation, 30 hours physical review, 15 hours practice teaching. Conducted over two weeks or three weekends.

Intensive Reformer

  • IR Prepares you to teach a broad range of exercises, variations and modifications performed on the Reformer – the key piece of resistance equipment used in pilates exercise. This course teaches you how to combine Mat- and Reformer-based workouts for increased variety and intensity. Upon completion of this course you are able to further motivate group classes and customize personal training sessions for a range of clients. In addition to the general course objectives you learn:

    -Effective use of resistance to enhance torso stability and peripheral extremity conditioning

    -How to develop effective Reformer and combined Mat-and-Reformer programs for personal and group classes

    -Essential, intermediate and power workouts

    -Effective communication, visual skills verbal cuing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation.

  • Anatomy, pilates training, and 3+ years teaching movement or fitness

  • 50 hours instruction and supervised teaching, plus minimum 10 hours observation, 40 hours physical review, 25 hours practice teaching. Conducted over 3 weeks or 4 weekends.

Intensive Cadillac

  • ICAD prepares you to teach Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) exercises on the Cadillac. By the end of this course you will be able to fine-tune personal and circuit training programs to meet a variety of clients’ conditioning goals with 125 exercises on the Cadillac Trapeze Table. Beyond the general course objectives, you will learn:

    -Effective use of the equipment to enhance torso stability and strength, peripheral extremity conditioning, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination.

    -How to develop dynamic programs in a full studio environment.

    -Essential and Intermediate exercises and variations.

    -Effective communication and observational skills, verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation.

    -Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions.

    -Exercise layering related to effective program design.

Intensive Chair

  • ICHR prepares you to teach Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) exercises on the Stability Chair. By the end of this course you will be able to fine-tune personal and circuit training programs to meet a variety of clients’ conditioning goals with 63 exercises on the Stability Chair. Beyond the general course objectives, you will learn:

    -Effective use of the equipment to enhance torso stability and strength, peripheral extremity conditioning, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination.

    -How to develop dynamic programs in a full studio environment.

    -Effective communication and observational skills, verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation.

    -Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions. Exercise layering related to effective program design.

  • IBRL prepares you to teach Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) exercises on the Barrels. By the end of this course you will be able to fine-tune personal and circuit training programs to meet a variety of clients’ conditioning goals with 98 exercises on the Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector and Arc Barrel. Beyond the general course objectives, you will learn:

    -Effective use of equipment to enhance torso stability and strength, peripheral extremity training, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination.

    -How to develop dynamic programs in a full studio environment.

    -Effective communication and observational skills, verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation.

    -Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions.

    -Exercise layering related to effective program design.

Injuries and Special Populations

  • The STOTT PILATES® Injuries & Special Populations (ISP) course equips you with the skills required to address a broad range of physical challenges among your clients. It is important to note that this course will NOT prepare students to diagnose or treat any specific injuries or conditions or prescribe exercises for these populations without consultation with an appropriate health practitioner (i.e. Physical Therapist, Physiotherapist or similarly recognized health care professional).

    Completion of ISP is required for full STOTT PILATES certification.

    General course objectives:

    Pilates instructor’s role in the rehabilitative process; examine the industry standards for screening clients and learn how to begin a Pilates program to safely and appropriately work with special populations; three-level muscle classification system; develop and be able to apply a rehabilitative approach based on current models of joint stability; examine optimal and dysfunctional biomechanical patterns in various regions of the body; review the most common injuries and special populations that may be encountered; review appropriate exercise progressions for those injuries and special populations; and, practice programming for specific injuries and special populations.

    What you will learn: approaches to rehabilitating an injured musculoskeletal system; anatomy and biomechanics, dysfunctions and pathologies, and exercise modifications in the: lumbo-pelvic, cervical, upper quadrant, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle and foot regions; pregnancy, fibromyalgia and other special conditions plus workout design; and, appropriate modification of Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Stability Chair and Barrel exercises.
